Luke 24: 13-35 Encounter on the Emmaus Road
The Road to Emmaus

During our service time last week, as we looked at the Disciples and Doubting Thomas trying to make sense of the chaos of the crucifixion and whirling, emerging events of the Resurrection, something much more chaotic and just as senseless as that scripture time was unfolding in Nova Scotia.

By mid week, it was apparent that at least 22 people had lost their lives in the worst mass murder in our history. A terrible, terrible incident that shook our country from coast to coast.

With this pain as our context, we come to the story of the Road to Emmaus. It is a journey that begins with chaos and pain. It is a journey that begs the travellers to stop and hear the voice of God, to remember the stories of the past that hold us up and guide us forward.

Where are our Emmaus Road encounters? Those moments when God pulls us up and reminds us to listen, learn and love. Those moments when we suddenly, through the simplest of gestures, find God right there with us. Those moments when God turns us around and sends us back to be the good, and do the good in the world.
